Don't know much about this one The motto, Dur Comme Roc" translates as "Hard as a Rock". Badge is made of age darkened white metal with a vertically placed straight pin attachment with the number 48 below the motto. Nicely hallmarked "Arthur Bertrand ...Paris"... most likely WWI era.

An interesting badge. Maybe you can shed some light onto its providence.
