Above are the scans for this WWII era General Service lapel pin. Made of silver with a King's crown above the traditional three maple leaves. The straight pin attachment, is in good working order. The "sterlingHMC" hallmark is below that. Also, note the inscription on the under the service number (#445841).
The inscription says "Penalty for misuse, 500 dollars or six months imprisonment".
This was done to protect real returning veterans from the fraud that could be caused by some usurper, who never served, wearing this badge so as not to suffer abuse from the local gentry as he walked down the street. In those days, if you didn't serve, you were considered as a "coward" unless you were in the factories etc...
The "conscientious objector" idea was a post war Communnist (liberal) invention. During the war the phrase "conscientious objector" did not exist, and those types were labeled "cowards" and often put on work farms, and somtimes even in prison.
