Above are the scans for this excellent example of a 1919 dated Returning Soldier's "For Honorable Service" Badge. The badge is most likely silver and has a "Caron Bros Montreal 1919" hallmark. The obverse also bears the service number of the recipient as well as a warning for improper use (view scans). The cross pin attachment is in excellent condition and works fine.

These badges were issued to men returning from combat who were of military age and had been in a combat theater.. Often men of military age who did not serve were vilified by the community for not signing up for military service during the war. Therefore the wearing of this badge was an indicator that that person had done his military service, and so would be saved from embarrassment and even physical harm...
