Above are the scans for this rare WWI era woman worker badge. It is made of brass and comes with a straight pin attachment as well as a suspended scroll with "6 months service" written on it. It also possesses a number "16277" which may be re-searchable as to the original owner. It is hallmarked "Ellis Bros. Toronto. A rare find from so long ago.

Some History: The Imperial Munitions Board (IMB) was the Canadian branch of the British Ministry of Munitions, set up in Canada under the chairmanship of Joseph Wesley Flavelle. It was formed by the British War Cabinet to alleviate the Shell Crisis of 1915 during the First World War. The Board was mandated to arrange for the manufacture of war materials in Canada on behalf of the British government. Because the private sector was unwilling or unable to operate in certain fields, the Board established seven "National plants" for the production of explosives and propellants, and one for the manufacture of airplanes. The Board also oversaw the production of ships and aircraft. Many of the workers who populated these plants were women. The badge shown above was most probably their access ID .
