Above are the scans for this WWII RCAF Reserve Service ID Pin, made of silver, with a spinner type attachment. Has a "Birks" hallmark. These pins were issued to returning airmen who had fought overseas and were on furlow, or wounded.
In those days young men who did not serve had "problems", on occasion, with those citizens of the country who had sacrificed and done their part. Service age young men, who were not in uniform were often considered as "cowards", despite their language, religious beliefs, and "concientious objections".
This response to young men in public become so common that it was necessary to protect the soldiers who had served and came home, from being beaten-up, if they were out of uniform.
The solution was found in this badge in WWII and Korea.
