Here is a nice clean WW2 era Regina Rifle Regiment cap badge. An exquisite example of a darkened brass badge. Both lugtype fasteners are intact and quite functional. (one lug re-welded)
In May of 1940 the Regina Rifle Regiment was mobilized to fight in WII. They embarked for the United Kingdom on August 24th, 1941. After extensive retraining they were sent into the frey on June 6th 1944. They landed on "D" day on Juno beach, Normandy, along with the 3rd Canadian Division. 2 other battalions of the Regina Rifles were established in 1942 & 1943. One was a reserve battalion, another was used for Airfield Defense, and the the 4th was established in 1945 as part of the occupation force for post war service.
Battle honors include Normandy Landing, Bretteville, Caen of course, the orne river,Falaise, Calais the Scheldt and others. This regiment exemplified the fighting spirit of Canada in those times.
