You are viewing a WW1 22nd Infantry battalion cap badge, 1st pattern . Made of brass, with one horizontal lug original and intact. A fine example of a field used badge from the proud and valiant "VanDoos" regiment from the Province of Quebec.
Formed in St. Jean, Quebec, this battalion sailed for England on May 20th, 1915. It was one of the larger battalions with 1133 enlisted ranks and officers. As one of the first battalions to enter the fray, these fighting French Canadians, acquitted themselves admirably against the Imperial German Army in Belgium and France, when they were serving in the 5th Canadian Infantry Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division. When I read of their exploits, it makes me proud to have grown up in "La belle Province".
