This regiment originated 25 February 1870 in Chatham, New Brunswick, as "The 73rd Northumberland New Brunswick" Battalion of Infantry. In November of 1940 it was redesignated as the 2nd (Reserve) Battalion, The North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment. On May 22, 1941 Major G. E. Lockwood takes over as second in command of the North Shore Regiment. Later on, he commanded the Regiment after its return to Canada. Shortly thereafter they were sent to England and later to Scotland for training. This was one of the Canadian regiments which landed on Juno beach on D-Day.
